Standing tall in metal and stone
Towering the Globe in glory I shine,
Praised and lauded for sewing States
I look now into Nation so mine.
Towers I see,I see asphalt and
trodden and mowed down greens.
Giant rocks so Lilliput now--
I look into the march towards growth.
I smile, I praise,I thank to Thee
for the transformations I stand to see
but, where have they, the un-sheltered gone?
I search for their placement and whine!
Beneath the towers and the stone
By the fading rivers and the farms
It pains to see em stripped to bone
baking under the heat from above n beneath
I see them pleading for a shower or alms
bare and hungry, tanned and dry.
Oh! for the Nation that marches fast
This sight is so piercing, so aghast.
Seeking an answer standing tall
Flanked and clouded with questions many
n the light of a brighter Nation
I stand so tall, I stand so bowed and heavy!
